Quanzhou commemorates Confucius with ancient-style chimes

www.chinanews.cn 2005-09-29 17:30:49

At 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 28, Fujian's Quanzhou held an ancient-style
ceremony on the platform of Dacheng Hall in the Confucius Temple for the
2556th birthday of Confucius. The Confucius Temple introduced a complete
set of ancient-style chimes produced on the basis of chimes excavated
from the Mausoleum of Yi, a Warring States (475BC-221BC) duke of the
State of Zeng (now Suizhou), in Hunan. This is the first time for
Quanzhou to commemorate Confucius with performances of traditional
Confucian ceremonial music.
