No 3G plan in the near future
www.chinanews.cn 2005-09-08 14:09:22
Chinanews, Sept. 7 - Asked about China's 3G timetable, Qi Chengyuan,
deputy director of the Department of High-tech Industry under the
National Development and Reform Commission, said at the 2005 China
Innovation Forum held today that at present, the 3G system issue is still
under discussion and there will be no definite plan in the near future.
The "3G in China" conference will be open as scheduled next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the test report of China's 3G technology standard, TD-SCDMA,
which was finished at the end of June, will be released. The global
communication industry is also waiting for China's 3G timetable. Wang
Xudong, Minister of Information Industry, pointed out at this year's
Fortune Global Forum that 3G services would be provided during the 2008
Olympic Games.
According to rules of network deployment, it requires a two-year period
for network infrastructure construction and adjustment for 3G. Therefore,
3G should take action at the end of this year or at the beginning of next
year. However, Qi Chengyuan indicated that there would be no new action
in the near future. Moreover, he clearly revealed that after the plan is
proposed, the deployment of 3G network will soon be completed.
